Matcha Basics

  • Matcha is green tea powder made by stone grinding the finest green tea leaves.
  • With Matcha, consume the whole green tea leaf instead of just water.
  • Drinking one cup of Matcha is equivalent to drinking over 15 cups of steeped tea.
  • Matcha is the traditional ceremonial tea of Buddhist and Zen Monks.
  • Matcha was originally the tea of Japanese royalty until the townspeople learned how to make it.

What is Matcha?

The word "Matcha" comes from the Japanese language and literally means "powdered tea". However, our matcha is not derived from just any old green tea, but rather from one of the highest quality green teas available, Gyokuro. Because of its powder form, Matcha can be quite easy to prepare. You don't even have to wait for it to steep. Just dissolve it in water and drink!

Why Our Matcha?

Our Matcha is a ceremonial grade green tea powder, ground from the highest quality tea leaves. The tea is grown and processed in South Korea with the utmost care for quality and freshness. Using only superior species of tea plants, our tea is grown within a small 45 acre tea garden, ensuring excellent quality, taste and flavor!

The color of our Matcha is a lush and vibrant green. It has just the right amount of sweetness and absolutely no bitterness. The flavors are very robust and complex with a subtle and pleasant smokiness that is also somewhat apparent in its aroma. The texture is nice and creamy and the overall experience leaves the mouth completely and utterly fulfilled!

Also, due to it's lack of bitterness and superior quality, our Matcha can be served either as thin (usucha) or thick (koicha) tea. Matcha of this quality is rare to come by and means that, when served in the traditional manner, you can use over twice as much Matcha to the same amount of water without it becoming bitter!
